Following The Nudges
Today I felt inspired to write this post. It is about following the nudges. Do you know what I mean when I say that? It is about following your inner knowing, or the little prompts that we can so easily ignore. That little voice that reminds us to remember something just as we leave the house, or the feeling that you want to go a different way to work and then find out your usual route was closed. It is about taking inspired action.
I used to be crippled by indecision and I think a lot of it was to do with the fact that I didn’t know who I was. I didn’t know what I wanted and I wasn’t listening. I used to do things because it was the ‘right’ thing to do, because I ‘should’ and because it was what everyone does. And even though I do believe that sentiment has it’s place, I also think it is important to give yourself the freedom to think outside the box and to behave differently, and to be uniquely you. It doesn’t have to be in radical ways, it can just be in small ways; like how you dress or little quirky phrases you like to use in conversation.
Over the years I have learnt to listen to myself more; and when I did, I became open to also hearing little nudges. It certainly helped with indecision, I used to even struggle to pick from a restaurant menu! Sometimes the nudges seem very out of the ordinary and I override them, thinking ‘don’t be so silly’. Only to find out later I would have been better off following it!
I believe these nudges come from a creative place. They are where intuition comes from, and where your inner knowing is. It is perhaps the part of ourselves we are traditionally taught not to trust, and it can so easily be confused with our inner critic which is a whole other part of ourselves. However, the difference between the inner knowing and the part that is critical is the place it comes from. I always feel the difference in my body. If it is an inspired thought then I get a feeling of lightness and even of excitement. If the thought brings me a heavy feeling, a turning in my stomach or is part of a stream of consciousness that is negative, I know that is just my fear talking.
It is so fun to work with these beautiful little nudges, they can really flip your day around, and make you feel like everything is working out without you having to even try. And I think that is a key point too, that the effortlessness is part of it; there is no ego involved, proving it’s worth, its effortless, easy and fun. When I do have these moments, I like to thank my Angels (I am kooky like that, but if you believe in a religious God or anything else for that matter, give them thanks instead). I find that being in a place of gratitude is key to staying in the flow of the nudges. So next time you feel a little prompting to do something out of the ordinary but it puts a smile on your face at the thought of it, why not try it! And see what life brings you as a result.
I hope you have a beautiful day wonderful people!
